One of the features that iOS users have always been envious of Android users are widgets. Widgets are small snippets of information that you can position on your home screen so that you can get quick access to certain relevant information, such as the weather, emails, news, music, and so on.

The advantage lies in how users can quickly glance at it instead of having to launch the app in full, saving users time in the process. With iOS 14, Apple has finally introduced an updated style of widgets that almost puts it on par with Android. This has led to an explosion in popularity of customization apps and if you’ve seen some cool home screen ideas that you want to replicate, here’s how you can use the new widgets feature in iOS 14.

Adding widgets to your home screen

  1. Tap and hold on a blank space on your home screen until the apps start to wiggle
  2. Tap the + button at the top left corner of the screen
  3. Tap on any widget you want
  4. You can swipe to see the different sizes and looks that the widget offers
  5. Tap Add Widget and it’ll now be added to your home screen

Now there’s something you need to take note of, and that is not all apps offer up widgets. An app supporting widgets is entirely up to the developer to choose, which means that whether or not your favorite app has a home screen widget will vary from app to app. There is no way to check if an app supports widgets, so you’ll need to do a search on Google or the App Store to find out if your favorite app supports it.

We imagine that eventually more apps will end up supporting widgets as it is still a relatively new feature, so give it some time.

Customizing your home screen with widgets

We’re sure some of you have come across various home screen designs ever since iOS 14 was released. There are several popular widget creation apps out there that let you add some fun things to your home screen, and we’ve listed some of the popular ones that you can check out.

The method to add these widgets to your home screen are identical to what we listed above, so you just need to download the app and choose your widgets, follow the steps, and you’re good to go!
