Fog and projectors used to create 3D multi-viewpoint display

A research group from Osaka University in Japan recently demonstrated a display that can be used to show 3D images with the usage of fog and multiple projectors. The projectors are set up in different angles around a fog screen, and each one projects a different viewpoint of the same object onto the fog. This allows users to view the image from multiple viewpoints, as if it was a 3D object, as they move around the fog. Even though the technology the students used can be further improved (more projectors and fog can be used), what they’ve managed to accomplish so far is pretty impressive. They hope to apply the usage of such technology to healthcare and entertainment in the future. Watch a video of the system in action after the break:
