Remember War of the Worlds? Well, think a robotic version of the scenario, and you might have robotic tentacles snaking their way all over the place. It seems that such robo-octopus tentacles are now ready for action, thanks to scientists who are working hard to develop an actual robotic octopus. The model that has been designed is soft enough to wrap around an object, but it is also full well of stiffening up just at the right amount of strength to grip onto things.

The tentacle will be made out of a steel cable that has been attached to even more nylon cables, where all of them are encased in a silicone skin. No idea on how the tentacle will be able to adjust itself, but the nylon cables are used to manipulate the central steel cable. This enables the tentacle to move around in a snake-like manner, helping grip an object after stiffening itself enough – without breaking it in the process.

Good luck guys, just hope that the AI programmed into it will not go awry and take over the world.
