Samsung has a knack for releasing an “Active” variant of its flagship smartphone. Just recently the Galaxy S5 Active was officially announced. It hasn’t done that for tablets as yet but if a new rumor is to be believed that it may not be too far off. Samsung has applied for the trademark “Samsung Galaxy Tab4 Active” hinting at the possibility that an IP-certified variant of this tablet might be in the pipeline.

It won’t exactly be doing anything groundbreaking though since this won’t be the first truly rugged tablet. Sony already has a couple of Xperia Z tablets out in the market that are IP55/57 certified, making them both dust and water resistant.

Galaxy Tab4 Active will however have the distinction of being the first rugged tablet from Samsung. The possibility exists that it may even tout an industrial tank-inspired design like the Galaxy S5 Active.

But as a potential customer do you think resistance to the elements would make you want to purchase a Galaxy Tab4? Tablets are generally used differently than smartphones so its highly unlikely that a user will drop it on the pavement. But if you’re someone who likes catching up on an e-book or surfing the web in the bath than a rugged water resistant tablet will certainly be a compelling product.
