markus-notch-perssonAccording to a report from yesterday, it seems that Microsoft could have their eye on developers Mojang, which for those unfamiliar is the company responsible for developing the Minecraft game which has proven to be quite a hit on the PC and console. This is a particularly interesting rumor as Mojang’s founder, Markus “Notch” Persson has been known to avoid such deals and has kept the studio’s indie status.

However according to a report from Bloomberg, it seems that the reason why Persson might allow this deal to happen is because he has no plans of remaining with Mojang upon its successful sale to Microsoft. At the same time, it also seems that Persson was the one who facilitated this deal and had actually reached out to Microsoft a couple of months ago.

Bloomberg’s sources tell them that “The two companies quickly agreed on a framework and approximate price and have been working out the details since, the person said. Persson will help out with the transition, though he is unlikely to remain beyond that, according to the person.”

Like we said earlier given Persson’s reputation, this hardly comes as a surprise, although we will have to wonder what the future of Minecraft will be like without his input in the development of the game. The deal has been rumored to be valued at $2 billion and if the earlier reports are to be believed, could be close to being announced.
