Over the past couple of months we have repeatedly heard rumors about a 12-inch MacBook that’s under development. Apparently its going to have a fan-less design which would make it thinner and lighter than most Macs available today, the notebook is also expected to come with a Retina display. Apple hasn’t said anything about this device but rumor has it that its already in limited production.

Taiwan-based manufacturer Quanta Computer has reportedly started limited production of this notebook in small volumes. It is said to increase output by the start of next month, reports DigiTimes, citing sources in Taiwan’s supply chain.

It is also speculated that since yield rates are not high enough Apple may not be able to get this product out in the market during the lucrative holiday season. Both Quanta and component manufacturers are reportedly working on increase yield rates so that the 12-inch MacBook might be released before holiday shopping season begins.

Following Apple’s confirmation today about the October 16th event there’s already much speculation about what we can expect from the company at this event. Apart from the new iPads we may also get to see new iMacs. The possibility exists that this new 12-inch MacBook might be shown off at the event as well but only Apple knows that for sure, we’ll have to wait and see to find out.
