Ever since Microsoft unveiled Windows 10 last month there has been ample speculation about the release date of Windows 10 for Phones preview. Microsoft was quick to release the technical preview of Windows 10 for desktop computers but it never provided a confirmed release date for the preview that’s meant for smartphone, it only said that the pre-release software would arrive soon. The wait finally ends today. Windows 10 for Phones preview has been released and it should go live in the very near future.

The confirmation comes straight from Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul who has been providing timely updates regarding the Windows Insiders program for Windows 10. Just a few hours back he teased the Windows 10 for Phones preview release date through Twitter, and now he has confirmed that today is the release day.

With the Windows Insiders program Microsoft is allowing users to test pre-release builds of Windows 10 on their devices. This enables the company to receive feedback from a substantial user base which goes a long way in ensuring that the software is free of any major bugs and issues once it is released for the general public.

Gabriel Aul has just confirmed that Windows 10 for Phones preview release is today. It shouldn’t take too long for the software to go live, we’ll update you as soon as it does.

If you’re planning to install it this would be the time to backup your device and save all important data just to be on the safe side.

UPDATE: It’s live.
