apple-maps-ios-7-navigationWhile Apple Maps held a lot of promise at its announcement, the reality was far from what many had expected. However to be fair, over the years Apple has made various changes and improvements to the software, resulting in a maps app that is perfectly usable and reliable today, and now thanks to Foursquare, the app has recently received a boost in functionality.

According to a report from MacRumors, Foursquare became a contributor to Apple Maps in October. What does this mean? The good news for users is that if you do enjoy Foursquare and its information, you will be able to find some of that data on Apple Maps, such as business listings.

While Foursquare might have originally debuted as an app for users to check into locations, it has evolved over time and now acts as a competitor to Yelp. Users can still check into places, but they can also leave reviews and also help users discover locations and attractions that are around them.

With Foursquare now being listed as a contributor to Apple Maps, it looks like Apple’s navigation app has just gotten a lot better. In fact Foursquare’s contribution to Apple Maps was rumored about several years ago, but it is only now that they are being officially credited, but we suppose better late than never, right?
