The Samsung NX1 mirrorless camera was announced last year in September. This makes it a little over a year old but could it be that Samsung had originally planned a 1 year lifespan for the device? It turns out that might be possible. This is according to various reports in which multiple news outlets have reported that the Samsung NX1 has been discontinued.
The reports claim that this has affected various markets ranging from Europe, Hong Kong, and Australia. Users who checked their local markets claimed that the reps told them that the camera has been discontinued and that it is part of Samsung’s move to exit the digital camera market.
According to a statement EOSHD got from Samsung, “We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In Europe, we will be discontinuing sales of NX1 cameras for now since there is already much better and upgraded cameras. This is specific to the region – and is not necessarily reflective of conditions in other markets. We will continue to thoroughly evaluate market conditions and will make further adjustments to maintain our competitiveness in emerging Camera categories.”
As you might have heard, earlier this month there were rumors that Samsung would be pulling out of the digital camera market and shuttering its camera division. The employees in that division are expected to be reshuffled into other divisions at Samsung. However based on that statement, it is not definitive but either way take it with a grain of salt, and hopefully we’ll have official soon.
