SoundHound is an app that most of us would equate to music recognition, where if you’re trying to find out the song that is currently being played, launch SoundHound and let it listen and it should be able to tell you what song it is. However earlier this year, SoundHound decided to expand its business by launching its voice assistant app Hound.

However it seems that isn’t where they are stopping. Recently SoundHound has announced that its Houndify platform will now be open to developers who wish to take advantage of it. For those unfamiliar, Houndify basically allows developers to integrate Hound-like features into apps and other devices.

One of the questions we had back then was how would Hound compete with other native voice assistant software, and it seems that Houndify could be how the company does it. So far SoundHound has partnered up with several developers of popular apps such as Expedia, AccuWeather, Sportradar, and Xignite.

So in the future don’t be surprised if you were to come across more smart gadgets that you could talk to and control. That being said, while Houndify is out of beta and available to developers (in free and paid tiers), Hound itself still remains in private beta although the company’s CEO Keyvan Mohajer says that should change soon. To get an idea of how Houndify will work, check out the video above for the details.
