When it comes to music recognition apps, there are pretty much two choices that users can go with: Shazam or SoundHound. Now if you’re a fan of the latter, you will be interested to learn that the app has recently received an update in which within the app itself, users will be able to use the voice command “OK Hound” to activate it.

By saying the command, it will open up SoundHound’s built-in voice assistant in which users can then ask it to perform a variety of things music-related. For example you can use your voice to ask SoundHound to identify a song that is currently playing, although admittedly this does seem like it would be slower than doing it the normal method.

However it can also be used to play songs, search for songs, and even ask SoundHound to find out what the trending music is around the user. Now to be fair, Shazam on iOS is integrated into Siri which means that in terms of identifying songs, there are less steps involved if you were to use voice commands.

However SoundHound’s voice assistant has been proven to be faster and is also able to parse more complex questions compared to Siri, so if you want to use it for more than just song identification, then this could be a useful feature to have. The update app is available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
