Last year June, you might have heard that song recognition app SoundHound released its own virtual assistant called Hound. Initial tests of the app found it to be a worthwhile competitor to the likes of Google Now, Siri, and Cortana, and the good news is that after more than half a year, the app has finally exited its beta and is available for download by anyone.

Now there are certain restrictions to Hound which is to be expected since the app is not a native one. This means that its integration into your operating system isn’t as deep as say Siri, Cortana, or Google Now. This also means that certain features and commands available to native virtual assistants might not be available for Hound.

However there are certain things that Hound might do better than its native counterparts, so we guess it wouldn’t hurt to use both interchangeably if you’re really into using virtual assistants. Hound will also use natural language, so you should be able to ask it things naturally. It also allow lets users follow up the previous query with another question, versus other virtual assistants where sometimes the follow up question might be treated as a standalone one.

The app is a free download and can be found on the iTunes App Store for iOS devices, and the Google Play Store for Android. Unfortunately there does not appear to be a Windows 10 Mobile version at the moment.
