playstation-vr-eventRight now we have the release dates set for both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, meaning that as far as all-in virtual reality headsets are concerned, only the PlayStation VR’s release date remains a mystery. However could it be that Sony might be close to announcing an official release date for their headset?

It turns out they might. The company has recently started sending out invites to an event that they will be hosting on the 15th of March, 2016 as you can see in the image to your right. The event also takes place ahead of the annual Game Developers Conference which seems to suggest that this might be more than just a casual gathering.

Last we heard, GameStop’s CEO had suggested that Sony will be launching the PlayStation VR in the Fall. This is something that Sony has since refuted those claims, meaning that once again it’s pretty much up in the air as to when the headset will be released, but hopefully this event will clue us in on the date and the price.

When the Oculus Rift was announced, many balked at its price tag of $599, but given that the HTC Vive is priced at $799, the Oculus Rift is the cheaper of the two. It has been suggested that Sony could price their headset between $400-$600, so for all we know, the PlayStation VR could end up being the cheapest. Either way do check back with us in March for the details.
