Rumor has it that Apple is going to introduce a new ultrathin MacBook in the second half of this year. The updated MacBook with Retina display is expected to feature a new screen hinge made from metal injection molding which will help shave off some of the bulk even though the notebook didn’t have much to start with.

The rumor comes from Taiwanese publication DigiTimes which has a hit or miss track record with these things so take the information with a grain of salt for now.

Apple’s MacBook lineup is due for a refresh but if we’re to believe this it would mean that those holding out for a new MacBook will have to wait for even longer now particularly if they’re looking to get the second generation 12 inch MacBook.

Previous rumors have suggested that Apple could announce refreshed MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June but there’s no confirmation on that as yet. The company didn’t talk about its notebooks in the event last month where it unveiled the iPhone SE.

The rumor doesn’t go into any more details about the ultrathin 12 inch MacBook that’s due in the second half of this year so we’ll have to keep waiting to find out more about it before Apple eventually make an official announcement.
