samsung logoWhen it comes to Android updates, OEMs tend to be pretty slow with their releases, but if you own a Samsung flagship handset from 2016, it seems that you could be getting a rather timely update of Android N in Q4 later this year, at least that’s according to the folks at SamMobile who have heard the news from their source.

Now as it stands, Android N is still in developer preview and will most likely be released in the later part of the year. This means that Samsung needs to get their hands on the files, tweak it to fit their Android handsets, and push it out within a relatively short period of time. Considering the history of Android updates, color us skeptical.

However over the years OEMs have tried to be more timely with their updates and have provided their customers with progress reports, so we guess that’s something. At this point it is unclear if only Samsung’s 2016 flagships will get it, or if they mean more recent flagships that could include last year’s models.

Also given that updates in the US have to go through an extra step of being approved by carriers, we wouldn’t be surprised that this could eventually spill over into 2017. In any case we guess it’ll be a nice surprise if Samsung does deliver the update by the end of the year, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they did not. In the meantime HTC has already listed the devices that will be getting the update.
