google logoHave you ever tried to search for lyrics before, only to be taken to a variety of different websites that seems to contain more ads than lyrics? If you’re worried about malware being installed from these websites on your computer, we suppose it is understandable as some of these ads are pretty shady-looking.

The good news is that soon you won’t have to deal with those sites anymore. In a report from Billboard, Google has entered into a multi-year licensing deal with LyricFind and will now be able to display lyrics in its entirety on its search results pages. This means that you won’t need to go to other websites for lyrics anymore. The best part is that thanks to this licensing deal, musicians, songwriters, and publishers will now have an additional source of revenue.

According to LyricFind’s CEO and co-founder Darryl Ballantyne, “It should be a significant revenue stream. I can’t get into the rates, but we expect it to be millions of dollars generated for publishers and songwriters as a result of this. It’s all based on usage. Royalties are paid based on the number of times a lyric is viewed. The more it’s viewed, the more publishers get paid.”

Unfortunately as it stands, it seems that the feature is only available in the US, although Billboard points out that Google also has licenses to display lyrics internationally as well, but we suppose it will eventually get rolled out to other countries in the near future.
