sony_playstation_vrYesterday Sony confirmed that the PlayStation VR would be launched on the 13th of October. If you haven’t pre-ordered or if you have pre-ordered late, there is a good chance your order could arrive later than you would like as Sony has already predicted that they will be experiencing shortages at launch.

Speaking in an interview with CNBC.com, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s president and CEO Andrew House was quoted as saying, “We have growing confidence that we’ll be supply constrained with this product, but we’ll do our very best to meet demand. Virtual reality is a medium that’s in its infancy. With such a nascent, very new form of storytelling, it’s difficult to predict what user uptake is going to be.”

If anything we would actually be surprised if there were no issues during the launch process. We’ve seen issues pop up regarding shipping with the likes of the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. In fact it was only just recently that HTC managed to get a handle on things where they are now able to ship the headset out within 72 hours of ordering.

In any case we’re hoping that Sony will be able to sort it out the best way they can, but if you do run into any delays, know that this was not completely unexpected.
