Ben Affleck took on the role of Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman last year as part of his work on the Batman vs Superman movie. He also made a cameo as the Caped Crusader in Suicide Squad so it’s safe to say that he’s going to hold on to the cape and cowl for some time. A standalone Batman movie has already been confirmed but it’s not confirmed as yet whether the lead actor will himself be directing the new Batman movie.

Speaking to The Guardian, Affleck said that it’s “not a set thing” that he’s going to direct the upcoming standalone Batman movie, even though he mentioned that “that’s the idea.”

“But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it,” Affleck added. It’s unclear what this movie might end up being called but reports suggest that it’s tentatively being referred to as The Batman.

It was back in December that Affleck said that the script was close to being finalized and once that’s done, filming would presumably begin soon. The studio hasn’t provided a release timeframe as yet but there’s speculation that this new Batman movie might be scheduled for release in the summer of 2018.

Before we see Affleck in his very own Batman movie, he’s going to reprise his role as Batman in Justice League that’s due to hit the big screen this summer.
