Apple’s AirPods turned out to be quite a surprising hit amongst consumers, despite the fact that it was made fun of at the start, and many were skeptical about its usability. However like we said, it proved to be a hit and a report from several months ago suggested that the AirPods were dominating the wireless headphone market.

This is why it doesn’t really shock us to learn that it is possible that the AirPods could see a growth in shipments in 2018. This is according to a research note by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo obtained by MacRumors, in which it suggests that shipments of the AirPods in 2018 could be double that of 2017’s shipments.

The official shipments or sales figures of the AirPods have yet to be disclosed by Apple, but Kuo’s research note claims that 2018’s shipments will be around 26-28 million, suggesting that 2017’s shipments are sitting around the 13-14 million mark. Note that shipments do not necessarily equate to actual sales, but then again we doubt that Apple would increase the shipments if there wasn’t at least some demand for it.

That being said, we should point out that Apple will be launching their AirPower wireless charging mat in 2018 which is compatible with the AirPods charging case, which could possibly help make it more appealing.
