The upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi will mark the second film in the latest trilogy of Star Wars films, with the last installment coming in 2019. We’re sure many are wondering what this means for the future of certain Star Wars characters that have appeared in the movies so far, and for those who are fans of Daisy Ridley’s Rey, that future is uncertain.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ridley was quoted as saying that her role as Rey will most likely come to an end after the third movie. The actress was quoted as saying, “I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.”

However this was interpreted as Ridley saying she did not want to have anything to do with the franchise in the future, in which she then clarified with the BBC by saying, “When I did sign up, I did sign up for three films and that’s where I sort of saw the story ending. I think everyone has perhaps taken that as me going, ‘I don’t want anything to do with it’ which is vastly untrue because this is awesome.”

That being said, her statement doesn’t exactly confirm that she will be making a return, although whether or not the story will incorporate her character remains to be seen. Last month Disney confirmed that a new trilogy will be in the works, but whether or not we’ll see existing characters return to it, like we saw with Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker, will most likely depend on the story. However since we’re years from seeing that happen, we guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
