Last year it was confirmed that Disney will be looking to launch a Star Wars live action TV series. However it seems that it won’t be limited to just the one series because according to Disney’s CEO Bob Iger, he revealed that they are actually looking to develop “a few” Star Wars TV series.

This was revealed during an earnings call with investors in which Iger was quoted as saying, “We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app. We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that. I think you’ll find the level of talent … on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

As expected these series will be exclusive to Disney’s upcoming streaming service which is expected to be launched in 2019, but whether or not the shows will be ready in time remains to be seen. In addition to this announcement, Iger had also earlier confirmed that they had brought on board the creators behind HBO’s Game of Thrones series to write a new series of Star Wars films.

However fans will have a long wait ahead of them as the creators, D. B. Weiss and David Benioff, only plan to start writing once Game of Thrones officially wraps in 2019.
