With so much competition from just Amazon and Google alone, we’re sure that many are curious as to how Apple’s HomePod speakers are doing. After all with seemingly less functionality compared to Amazon’s Echo and Google Home and with a higher price tag, who are Apple’s customers?

Turns out that analysts appear to be pretty pessimistic about the HomePod’s sales. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he predicts that Apple will only sell about 2 million HomePods this year. 2 million sounds like a lot of units, but not when you consider that earlier predictions had estimated that Apple could sell as many as 10 million units in the device’s first year.

This echoes an earlier report from Bloomberg which claims that some Apple Stores were only selling 10 HomePods a day. Kuo also goes on to state that due to the lackluster sales that Apple is now considering introducing a low-cost model. Like we said, the HomePod is probably one of the most expensive smart speakers in the market today, a market which is filled with more affordable devices from Amazon and Google (Echo Dot, Home Mini).

However whether or not Apple will go through with their plans remains to be seen, but for now it doesn’t seem like the HomePod is doing as well as Apple would have liked.
