It was previously confirmed that Warner Bros. was developing a standalone Joker movie that would explore the origins of the character. It was also reported that actor Joaquin Phoenix would be starring in the titular role, and now thanks to the movie’s director Todd Philips, we have caught a glimpse as to what Phoenix could look like in the movie.
In a video clip uploaded onto his Instagram page, Philips shared a short video that shows Phoenix looking normal before transitioning into what we can only assume is his Joker makeup. It definitely doesn’t look like the comics as it still looks like a traditional clown makeup, but given that this is an origins story, perhaps this is just one of the early iterations of the character’s makeup.
We have to admit that there is something very disturbing about Phoenix’s portrayal of the character, from the way he looks into the camera, to his smile, to the overall makeup, all of which are good things given how the Joker is probably one of the most iconic villains in the superhero universe. The Joker movie is expected to only be released in 2019 and it will also feature the likes of Robert De Niro and Zazie Beetz (from Deadpool 2), just to name a few.
