For those who felt that BioWare’s Baldur’s Gate franchise should have continued, you will be pleased to learn Baldur’s Gate 3 is apparently in the works. This is according to a tweet by Brian Fargo (via Game Rant) who for those unfamiliar, is the founder of Interplay who was also the series’ original publisher.

According to Fargo, he claims to know who is working on the game, but he stopped short of mentioning who. This led to rumors and speculation that it could be the Divinity: Original Sin team, Larian Studios, although the studio has since denied that they are working on the game or bought any IP related to work.

However while the rumors might have gotten the studio wrong, Fargo’s tweet does at the very least hint that there are plans to make a third game in the series. So far Beamdog has been remastering the original games and released them as Enhanced Editions which comes with slightly updated graphics and some new features.

Beamdog’s Trent Oster had also previously hinted that maybe they could develop Baldur’s Gate 3, but that was about 6 years ago and safe to say that they probably won’t. While Baldur’s Gate is one of the more classic franchises back in the earlier days of PC gaming, it will be interesting to see how the third installment will fit into today’s gaming landscape.
