Following the massive success that Black Panther had at the box office, a sequel was pretty much confirmed. Now the good news is that if you enjoyed the first movie, then expect its sequel to maintain the same tone (and hopefully success) as its predecessor because a report from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ryan Coogler will return for the sequel.

For those unfamiliar, Coogler was both the writer and director for the first Black Panther movie. The report claims that Marvel had always planned to keep the creative team together as much as possible, so this report hardly comes as a surprise, and like we said it is good news since Coogler should be able to better maintain the tone of the film than if someone new had come on board.

That being said, it could be a while before we actually see the sequel. The report claims that Coogler only plans to start writing the script next year and production might only start in early 2020, which means that a release in late 2020 or early 2021 will be likely scenarios. It’s too early to tell what story the sequel will tell, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime 2019 is expected to bring Captain Marvel, the fourth Avengers movie, and also the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. Marvel and Disney have yet to officially announce their plans for the next phase of the MCU.
