There is a reason why regulators have banned drones from being flown around airports. This is because while we’re sure it will be cool to take some videos and photos of planes taking off and landing from the perspective of a drone, it might end up being a bit dangerous as an inexperienced pilot might accidentally fly too close.

Unfortunately near misses with drones is something that seems to happen far too often, and recently a report from Bloomberg has revealed that Boeing 737 passenger jet might have collided with a drone midair during the landing process. According to the report, it seems that crew members heard a loud bang while the plane was in midair and approaching its destination.

Upon landing, it was revealed that the nose of the plane had been damaged, like it had hit something. It is unclear if this might have been the result of colliding with a drone midair, but authorities are investigating the matter. According to Aeromexico, “The exact cause is still being investigated. The aircraft landed normally and the passengers’ safety was never compromised.”

Thankfully apart from the loud bang and damage to the nose of the plane, there were no issues with landing and no one was injured. Recently there have been a set of worldwide standards proposed for drone usage, one of which includes geofencing that will prevent drones from entering certain areas, such as airports.
