These days more smartphone makers are starting to ditch the headphone jack, which means that either users will need to find their own adapters, use wireless headphones, or find a headphone cable that can connect to the Lightning, USB-C, or micro USB port on their devices if they prefer a wired connection.

Now such cables can be found relatively easily, but V-Moda might have something for the audiophiles out there. The company has recently unveiled a new Lightning to 3.5mm cable that will actually come with a DAC and an amp built into it. This means that if you have a pair of headphones that might be able to benefit from an amplifier driving it, then this could take your listening experience to the next level.

Unfortunately the cable does not come cheap at $101, but like we said it does come with a built-in DAC and amp so presumably those are what drove up the price compared to regular cables. V-Moda is not alone in creating such devices, Shure had also previously unveiled a similar offering, although Shure’s cables have been designed for use with its own headphones while V-Moda’s cable will plug into any audio device with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

We had also previously seen Essential launch a similar audio adapter that can be attached to their phones. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, then head on over to V-Moda’s website to purchase it.
