#CES2019 – When it comes to protecting our computers and accounts, the most common way would be a password. However since passwords can be guessed, other methods have since been created such as 2FA, biometric security, and more recently it seems that hardware keys are increasing in popularity.

In fact at CES 2019, Swedish company launched the YubiKey for Lightning which is a hardware security key designed for iOS devices. Prior to this, Yubico’s offerings were pretty much all USB-based, which meant that iOS devices were left out of the loop. However this launch means that iOS users who prefer a hardware security method such as this will have more options to choose from.

Also what’s interesting about the YubiKey for Lightning is that it is dual-ended. This means that on one end there is the Lightning connector, and on the other end there is a USB-C connector, which means that it can also play nicely with Apple’s new iPad Pros that use USB-C, or future iPhones which many believe will eventually make that transition as well.

Unfortunately you won’t be able to buy the YubiKey for Lightning just yet. It is currently in private preview which means that it isn’t available commercially for now. There is no word on when it will be released to the public, but it might be worth keeping an eye out for.
