Earlier this year Netflix announced that they would be hiking up their prices. This is done as Netflix is starting to invest more in original content and is looking to help recover some of those expenses. The good news is that in response to Netflix’s price hike, Hulu announced that they would actually be making their prices cheaper.

For those looking to switch from Netflix to Hulu or who are already Hulu subscribers, you’ll be pleased to learn that those price changes have since come into effect. However we should note that Hulu’s price cut is only for those who are subscribed to their ad-supported streaming, which means that despite you paying for it, you can still expect to see ads.

However the upside is that you’ll be able to access all this content for a very affordable price of $5.99 per month for the basic subscription package, and all you’ll need to do is put up with ads every now and then. The bad news is that Hulu will also be increasing the price of its Live TV subscription from $39.99 a month to $44.99, but if you don’t need live TV then this shouldn’t be an issue.

Netflix is expected to face some stiff competition later this year when Disney+ launches. Also given that Disney’s deal with Fox (when it does close) means that the company will end up owning the majority share of Hulu, it could spell trouble for Netflix, but we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
