At E3 2019 last month, Studio MDHR, the developer of popular indie game Cuphead, announced a new DLC in the form of The Delicious Last Course. The game was originally scheduled for a release in 2019, but in a post made on its Facebook page, the studio has since announced that the DLC has been delayed to 2020.

According to Studio MDHR, “Hello old friends and new! Our highest priority with The Delicious Last Course is making sure this new adventure meets the meticulous level of care and quality we always strive for. It’s also important to us that we make things in a way that’s healthy and sustainable for our team. With that in mind, we’ll be moving the release for all platforms to 2020.”

The statement seems to be a nod towards how there seems to be reports of development studios who have been pushing their developers to the extreme just to meet deadlines. Even Blizzard had recently admitted that they too participated in what is known as the “crunch”, but also acknowledged that while they believed it contributed to their success, they did not think it was sustainable.

Either way, delays in game releases do happen from time to time and it is perfectly understandable that developers want to take their time, rather than push out a game that was rushed. Cuphead is currently available on the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the PC.
