Last week, Apple introduced the 16-inch MacBook Pro where they also brought a new “Magic Keyboard” to the laptop. Based on the teardown, this is essentially the same old scissor mechanism used in earlier MacBooks before the introduction of the butterfly switch, along with some added improvements that are said to improve key stability.

Now, we have heard rumors that Apple will be introducing this new keyboard to future MacBooks, and now according to a report from DigiTimes (paywall), it seems that the 13-inch MacBook Pro could be one of the first laptops to receive the new keyboard following the 16-inch model.

The report claims that the new scissor keyboard will be introduced in the first half of 2020, and while DigiTimes doesn’t necessarily have the best track record for these kind of things, it should be noted that a refresh in the first half of the year actually makes a lot of sense, so this doesn’t really come as a complete surprise.

Apple is expected to continue making 13-inch MacBook Pros, where a recent interview with Apple exec Phil Schiller confirmed that the company will not be replacing it with a 14-inch model. No word on when the refresh is expected to take place, but Apple usually hosts an event in the first quarter of the year, so maybe around then.
