As some of you might have heard, it wasn’t too long ago that there was a rumor claiming that Apple could actually be planning to launch a VR headset ahead of their AR glasses. Now thanks to a new report from The Information (paywall), more details about the rumored device has surfaced.

The publication cites an unnamed source who is supposed to have “direct knowledge” of the device. According to their source, they claim that Apple’s VR headset could cost as much as $3,000. This is pretty expensive compared to more consumer-ready versions like Facebook’s Oculus and Valve’s Index.

However, as per the previous report, Apple’s intentions of their VR headset isn’t so much for consumers, but rather it is aimed at developers and enthusiasts who might be willing to shell out that kind of money to try something a bit more groundbreaking. It would also put it on par in terms of pricing with Microsoft’s HoloLens which is priced around the $3,500 mark.

That being said, another reason for the high costs could be the inclusion of dual 8K displays. This means that what users will be able to see while in VR will be more detailed and potentially more realistic. We’re not sure when this rumored VR headset will be launched, but if the last report is accurate, 2022 could be that year.
