Apple’s iMessage is a pretty decent way for iOS and macOS users to message each other, send files, share media, and all that jazz, but is it necessarily the best? Maybe not, and with Google pushing its RCS messages, it seems that maybe iMessage could stand to receive an upgrade.

According to the speculation, that is exactly what will be happening. Based on the invites and teasers Apple has put out for WWDC 2021, it seems that iMessages could be on the receiving end of an upgrade at the event. So what kind of changes are we looking at?

Based on a report from Bloomberg last month, some of the changes and new features we can expect from iMessage include automatic replies to messages, unique notifications for DND and Sleep Mode, and also some changes that will eventually turn iMessage into a social network of sorts that could challenge the likes of Facebook’s WhatsApp.

The social network aspect of the report is interesting because a more recent report suggested that Apple almost acquired online rap battle platform Verzuz, which apparently would have helped the company with their social networking ambitions. Either way, WWDC 2021 is next week so we should have more details then.
