With the refresh of the iPad Pro earlier this year, Apple introduced a mini LED display to its iPad lineup. However, there is a chance that mini LED could be a stop-gap feature and that Apple’s true intentions are to eventually transition over to OLED. Now a report from The Elec claims that an OLED iPad could actually launch in the next 2-3 years.

The report claims that LG has allegedly started the development of OLED panels for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and that these panels could arrive for either the 2023 or 2024 models. This means that for the next 1-2 years, the iPad Pro could continue to use mini LED displays.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about Apple’s interest in OLED panels for the iPad series. Recently, there was a report that Apple had apparently scrapped plans for an OLED iPad Air in 2022 that they were developing together with Samsung. It was suggested that there were technical hurdles as well as financial disputes that resulted in the partnership falling apart.

That being said, 2023/2024 is still quite a long time away so we imagine it is possible that things could still change from now until then, so take this with a grain of salt for now.
