Apple iTunes gains 2 more competitors

iTunes logoWhen you’re at the top, there’s always the fear of someone knocking you down – and that’s what Apple’s music service, iTunes, is probably feeling right now. It has been reported that RIM and Microsoft will have new music services that could compete with iTunes. RIM has teamed up with 7digital to ship their PlayBook with 7digital’s music store installed on the tablet. This gives PlayBook users access to about 13 million songs from the get-go when the PlayBook ships later this month. Microsoft has been rumored to replace its Zune brand with a new music and video discovery service codenamed “Ventura”. No details have been revealed, but it has been said to be in development by the Entertainment and Devices division. With Apple’s iTunes music store running for so long, it’s going to be hard for new services to gain any traction against the giant of this competition but then again, users shouldn’t be forced to purchase music from one store, after all like in the offline world, we should be allowed to have a few favorite stores and not just one.
