It was hinted last year that rerun favorite Seinfeld would be coming to an online video streaming service, and it became evident soon enough that Netflix had dropped out of the race to secure the rights. The rights battle was more or less between Amazon for Prime Instant Video and Hulu, it was confirmed only a couple of months back that Hulu has secured exclusive rights for streaming Seinfeld online. All 180 episodes of this insanely popular series can now be streamed from Hulu.

Only subscribers who pay monthly for Hulu’s premium service will be able to stream Seinfeld online on-demand, they will have access to all 180 episodes that have not been sped up, thus being able to enjoy the show in the way the creators intended.

Hulu never really confirmed how much it had to pay in order to secure the exclusive online streaming rights for one of the most popular shows ever created but several reports indicate that it paid around $150 million, which works out to around $0.8 million per episode.

Speaking with CNNMoney, Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins said that he believes Seinfeld is a “one-of-a-kind property” which will help the online streaming service attract a completely new audience.

If Seinfeld is the only reason why you’ll consider paying for Hulu then you better be willing to pay $8 per month because that’s what a premium subscription costs.
