Admit it, at some point in time when we were children, we’ve all built planes out of paper. Some of us might be terrible at it, while some of us have successfully created paper planes that can traverse great distances. However fast forward to today, it looks like the Volta Flyer will put whatever we made as kids to shame.

What is the Volta Flyer? As you can see in the video above, the Volta Flyer is essentially a plane designed for kids. However this isn’t your standard remote controlled airplane, but rather it is a plane that comes with a solar panel built into it, thus turning the plane into both a toy and an educational project that they can work on with their parents.

According to its description, “The Volta Flyer is the world’s first DIY airplane kit that is solely powered by the sun. The kit contains all of the prefabricated parts and components necessary to build your very own solar airplane. The Volta Flyer can be assembled in as little as 20 minutes without special tools or glues – just your hands. When building the Volta Flyer, kids will learn about basic mechanical engineering, aeronautics, electronics and renewable energy.”

The plane’s body is made from a combination of Depron foam and balsa wood, thus resulting in it weighing a very light 3.9 grams. It looks like a fun project that even adults can get in on, and if this sounds like something you might be interested in, head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details.
