Top Gear is one of the most popular TV shows, watched by millions around the world, it truly is the best motoring show that has ever hit the airwaves. It went through a big shakeup during the past year following a fracas between lead man Jeremy Clarkson and a producer, which led to Clarkson and his team leaving BBC. The company then brought on an entirely new lineup of hosts and has released a new trailer today which confirms when the next season of Top Gear is going to arrive.

Even though they’ve left BBC, Jeremy Clarkson and his pals Richard Hammond and James May are not out of work. They’ve joined Amazon and are now filming a brand new motoring show for its video streaming service. Filming is underway but it’s unclear right now when the show will be released.

Season 23 of Top Gear will be hosted by Chris Evans (not Captain America) and Matt LeBlanc, otherwise known as Joey from Friends, as well as several other team members all of whom have ties to the automotive industry. BBC has kept The Stig around as well, the trailer reveals.

Top Gear has a robust global fan following many of whom doted on Jeremy Clarkson and his team. They were obviously not happy when BBC decided not to renew his contract and the entire team left. They’re still not happy, even though the trailer has only been up for a short while on YouTube, it already has more likes than dislikes and the comments section makes it clear that people would rather have the old hosts back.

That being said, Top Gear is a very valuable property for BBC, and it’s certainly not going to give up on it. The new folks have nothing to do with whatever went wrong in the past year so they do deserve the chance to show that they are more than capable of headlining the best motoring show on the planet. Whether or not they’re able to convince viewers is another matter, we’ll find out for sure when season 23 of Top Gear airs this May.
