A new report by the infamous KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 8 is going to pack a larger battery into a small form factor. Apparently, it’s going to have the battery capacity of the existing 5.5 inch model inside a 4.7 inch form factor. It’s said that for this to happen, Apple is going to move its next-generation iPhone to a higher-cost stacked logic board design.

The report mentions that this is what’s going to allow the iPhone 8 to have similar dimensions to the 4.7 inch iPhone but a battery life comparable to that of the 5.5 inch iPhone. Kuo expects the handset to feature a 2,700mAh battery in an L-shaped two-cell battery pack.

The same analyst has previously claimed that the iPhone 8 is going to be the first iPhone to feature an OLED display. Since OLED panels are more power efficient than their LCD counterparts, the iPhone 8 is also expected to see improved battery life as a result of the change in display technology.

None of this has obviously been confirmed at this point in time and it’s still too early to be sure of what the iPhone 8 is going to bring. Apple isn’t due to launch the new iPhones until the fall this year so we’re definitely going to hear a lot more of these reports before the official announcement is made.
