We have been hearing reports that Samsung plans to launch a smart speaker powered by Bixby, but other than the fact that it will feature Bixby as its digital assistant, not much else is known about it. However according to the folks at SamMobile, they might have gotten their hands on some details about the upcoming device.

According to the report, the Bixby speaker is rumored to feature a display. This will allow users to interact with the speaker, such as scrolling through song lists. It is also said to support Spotify where upon setup, users will be able to choose their preferred music service. There will also be the ability to link multiple Bixby speakers together, similar to what we’ve seen from the likes of Sonos and Apple.

The speakers are also said to allow the user to adjust which direction they want the sound to be directed at. It is unclear how this will work, but it has been suggested that WiFi beamforming is one of the methods, or maybe the use of infrared sensors. Other than that, the rest of the speakers will function like regular speakers and Bixby will also function like it would on the phone.

Of course things like sound quality and pricing remain to be seen as those factor into whether or not customers will adopt it, so we guess we’ll just have to wait and see. No word on when it will be announced, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung were to announce it alongside the Galaxy Note 9, which last we heard could be announced on the 9th of August.
