The idea of a dual camera setup seemed a little ridiculous several years ago, but now it’s become a mainstay feature for most flagship smartphones. Then Huawei came along with a triple lens camera with the P20 Pro, but as some of you might have heard, Samsung plans on one-upping them with a quad-camera smartphone.

Now thanks to a render uploaded by Evan Blass (see above), a render of the alleged smartphone has been revealed showing off all four cameras on the back of the phone. Typically what we see in dual camera smartphones is that it will combine a wide-angle with a telephoto lens, which is what Samsung has done here.

However it also seems that they’ve added what they’re calling the “main camera” that will have a much higher resolution at 24MP, and a much wider aperture at f/1.7 that should help with focus photo taking and better handling in low light. Then there will also be a “depth” camera which we assume could be similar to Apple’s TrueDepth camera in concept.

Exactly what Samsung plans to achieve with a quad-camera setup is anyone’s guess, but Samsung is expected to host an event on the 11th of October, perhaps we will find out more about the smartphone (known as the Samsung Galaxy A9 Star Pro) then.
