One of the selling points of IKEA’s smart home products, apart from its affordability, is how they support Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem. This means that they can be used together with other HomeKit devices and be controlled at the same time or in groups. Unfortunately, one of IKEA’s upcoming smart home products, the FYRTUR smart blinds, will not support HomeKit at launch.

In case you’re hearing about this for the first time, IKEA had previously announced plans to launch a set of smart blinds/shades. Given that there aren’t that many HomeKit compatible smart blinds in the market, it was good news for smart home owners who were looking to furnish their home with it.

However, it seems that IKEA has since confirmed that HomeKit support for its smart blinds will not be available at launch. The company has stated that they will be adding it later this fall, but when exactly that will be remains to be seen. This isn’t the first time IKEA has delayed HomeKit support. They had previously delayed HomeKit support for its smart plugs, but it eventually arrived, so better late than never, we suppose.

In the meantime, IKEA has announced that they are planning on doubling down on its smart home efforts by creating a new IKEA Home Smart business unit.
