Last month, it seemed that following a historic deal and a ton of success, Sony and Disney could not come to a new agreement regarding Spider-Man and his involvement in the MCU. This eventually led to Sony essentially getting up from the negotiations table and saying that they were done.

This was obviously extremely disappointing news for fans, especially with the role that Spider-Man has played in the various Marvel movies he’s appeared in so far. However, it looks like both Sony and Disney have made up since because in a joint announcement, Sony and Disney have revealed that Spider-Man will be swinging his way back into the MCU.

In a statement made by Marvel Studios and President Kevin Feige, “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

According to the previous reports, one of the reasons that led to the split was because Disney wanted a bigger slice of the pie by asking for 50% of the profits. However, it seems that both companies have eventually agreed to a new deal where Marvel/Disney will receive 25% of the profits. That being said, with the partnership back on, the third Spider-Man movie will be released on the 16th of July, 2021.
