The last time a major Battlefield title was released was back in 2018 which came in the form of Battlefield V. Unlike Activision’s Call of Duty, EA’s Battlefield series typically does not follow an annual release. With 2020 drawing to an end, it looks like we won’t be getting a new title this year, but that won’t be true for 2021.

During EA’s earnings call, the company’s CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed that a new Battlefield title will be arriving in the holiday season of 2021, which means that it’ll roughly be about a year or so before we can look forward to the title. Wilson goes on to claim that EA will be sharing additional details about the game in the spring.

He also adds that DICE is creating “our next Battlefield game with never-before-seen scale. The technical advancements of the new [PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S] consoles are [enabling] the team to deliver on a true next-gen vision for the franchise. We have hands-on play testing underway internally, and the team’s been getting very positive feedback on the game as we’ve begun to engage our community.”

It would seem that EA might have originally planned to release the game this year. This was hinted at by Wilson where in response to a question, he stated that DICE had been given an extra year to develop the game due to the fact that it was a bit tough to try and develop games during the pandemic.
