Last year before the year closed out, there was a report claiming that Apple could launch a new iPad Pro in the first quarter of 2021. While refreshes are to be expected, what makes this iPad Pro different is that it is apparently rumored to be using mini LED display panels, a change from the LCDs iPads have used in the past.

Now a new report from DigiTimes is reiterating those claims, where it says that we can most likely expect the tablet in the next few months. Like we said, an iPad Pro refresh isn’t too surprising. The last time Apple refreshed the iPad Pro lineup was in the early part of 2020 where they gave the tablet a LiDAR scanner which eventually made its way onto the iPhone.

The use of mini LEDs would also mark the first time Apple will be using the technology. The company had previously heavily relied on LCDs for its products like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers. Apple is currently using OLED for its iPhones and many had expected the iPads to make a similar change, but if these rumors are accurate, it seems that the iPads might use mini LEDs instead.

In addition to the iPads using mini LEDs, there have been rumors claiming that Apple will use the technology in its other products as well. This includes devices like the MacBook laptops and iMac desktops and are expected to debut in 2021. We’re not sure if Apple plans to eventually switch the iPhone over to mini LED, so we’ll have to wait and see.
