Apple’s first-gen AirPods Pro has been around for a couple of years now, which means that it seems like it might be time for a refresh. According to a report from DigiTimes (paywall), it appears that the second-gen AirPods Pro could arrive in the first half of 2021.

We have been hearing rumors of Apple’s plans for a second-gen AirPods Pro. In a way, this hardly comes as a surprise since we imagine that the company would want to follow up with a newer model given the success of the AirPods lineup. This report also corroborates a report from earlier in the month which provided a slightly more specific timeframe, which is April 2021.

Apple typically hosts an event in the first half of the year (not counting WWDC) where they sometimes announce a refresh to its iPad or Mac lineup, so it is possible that the second-gen AirPods Pro could also be announced then. Apple has been rumored to be making some design changes to the AirPods Pro, where they could do away with the stem design and make them more like the earbuds we’ve been seeing from other manufacturers.

There have also been talks about a potential AirPods Pro Lite which will sit in between the regular AirPods and the Pro model.
