At WWDC 2026, Apple introduced a major overhaul to its virtual assistant with Siri AI, driven by the company’s second-generation on-device Apple Intelligence model and a collaboration with Google Gemini. Mike Rockwell, VP of Siri Engineering, unveiled the upgraded assistant, highlighting increased capabilities, systemic app actions, and a brand-new dedicated Siri app.
The update features a significant design shift, replacing the legacy colorful edge effect with a dark-themed interface built into the Dynamic Island on iOS 27. Users can trigger the assistant by swiping down on the Dynamic Island or through existing invocation methods. On macOS, Siri transitions to a monochrome menu bar icon and integrates directly with Spotlight. All Siri chats are privately synchronized across devices using iCloud.

Siri AI introduces advanced on-screen awareness and personal context understanding, enabling it to recognize entities like locations within Instagram posts or specific contact details without explicit prompting. Voice capabilities are also expanded, offering customizable options for pace and expressivity. Additionally, a new “Write with Siri” feature assists with text composition and learns user-specific communication styles for different contacts.

The assistant’s ecosystem expansion includes integration with watchOS 27, AirPods, and CarPlay. On Apple Vision Pro, Siri manifests as a gaze-activated floating orb, alongside broader Visual Intelligence features coming to visionOS 27. Furthermore, iOS 27 introduces a dedicated “Siri mode” inside the native Camera app. This allows users to leverage the camera for tasks like splitting bills or extracting information from physical posters to populate multiple calendar events automatically.
Siri AI will initially launch exclusively in English. The assistant will be available to developers immediately and will enter a public beta for consumers later this year. However, certain advanced capabilities will require newer, high-end hardware, and some interactions will be subject to daily usage limits unless users possess an active iCloud+ subscription. Apple confirmed that Siri AI will not be available in the European Union or China at launch.
