The wonderful world of Lego has clearly seen many imaginative creations in the past, but when it comes to popular pop culture, this Lego R2-D2 clearly beats them all. It looks just like the real deal except for being “bricked” – hmmm, imagine Artoo receiving the latest software update OTA and getting bricked in the process, now that would make for a half decent geek joke.

Peter “Ickelpete” Salter’s Lego R2-D2 is not just a stationary work of art that is meant to remain somewhere under the spotlight, immobile behind a glass cabinet. No sir, this 23.6″ tall labor of love actually boasts of a retractable leg, and is fully capable of lighting up. The sounds that you view in the video is not authentic but rather, recorded over, but Peter has plans to include a remote-triggered audio in his creation sometime down the road. To top it all off, its head is capable of rotating just like the real deal.

It took around 6,000 Lego bricks and 18 months of hard work for the Lego R2-D2 to be completed, and we certainly salute Peter for his perseverance and creativity. Now go and kick some Sith butt, Artoo!
