One of the more unique features of e-ink displays is that they use a lot less power compared to regular smartphone displays, meaning that e-ink devices like the Kindle e-readers can usually last quite a while before requiring a recharge. Now if you’d like to bring that battery saving feature to your current smartphone, you can, thanks to Oaxis’ InkCase Plus.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of e-ink displays being used as a secondary display, but if you were looking for alternatives, perhaps the InkCase Plus could be worth your time. Essentially what it does is that it brings a secondary display to Android phones. Users will be able to use it to view text messages, answer or end incoming calls, control your music, view photos, and so on.

As expected, the InkCase Plus will pair with smartphones using Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, which will contribute towards saving battery life on your smartphone. Users will be able to choose to use the InkCase Plus either as a device on its own (assuming it’s paired with your smartphone), or stick it in a protective case so that you won’t have to carry your phone and the InkCase Plus separately.

Now we have to say that the InkCase Plus is a pretty clever idea and if you’re constantly on the move and want to save your phone’s battery life by not turning on the display all the time, then the InkCase Plus could be a Kickstarter worth funding. The project has managed to raise over $140,000 at this time of posting and has exceeded its original goal of $100,000, so if you’d like to learn more, head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details.
