It was announced today that Samsung and Lionsgate Studios have teamed up to bring a virtual reality experience to Gear VR, Samsung’s virtual reality headset, the experience is meant to promote Lionsgate’s upcoming film The Divergent Series: Insurgent. The tie-in is called Insurgent – Shatter Reality and it is a four minute fully immersive experience that is going to put users in Insurgent’s world.
Insurgent – Shatter Reality is a 360-degree virtual experience that will last only four minutes however it does feature stars from the Divergent series. Kate Winslet, Miles Teller and Mekhi Phifer will all be seen in the VR experience.
Samsung and Lionsgate will be taking this experience from city to city. The tour starts February 27th and will visit New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin and San Francisco. Insurgent – Shatter Reality will also be available from the Samsung Milk VR store through March 1st.
People who are based outside of these tour markets will be able to get their experience at select Best Buy locations between March 7th and March 8th. Many Best Buy stores across the country play host to Samsung Experience Shops, that’s where this experience will be provided on the Gear VR headset.
Fans of the franchise would probably be aware that The Divergent Series: Insurgent is going to be released in theaters around the world on March 20th.
